Holger Danske var en af de mest handlekraftige danske modstandsgrupper under Besættelsen. Gruppen opstod i 1943 og blev hurtigt kendt for målrettet sabotage og organiseret kamp mod den tyske besættelsesmagt.

Skiltet er udført i metal med håndmalet rød skrift:

Denne type plader med den håndmalede typografi blev ikke udstedt af myndighederne, men benyttet internt i modstandsmiljøet til mærkning af køretøj.

This exceptionally rare metal plate is an original internal identification sign attributed to the Danish resistance group Holger Danske, active during the German occupation in the Second World War. Holger Danske emerged in 1943 and soon became one of the most determined and action‑oriented resistance groups in Denmark, known for sabotage operations, clandestine transport work, and coordinated armed resistance.

The plate is hand‑painted in red with the inscription:
“HOLGER DANSKE – KL8H – (1)”

Unlike official vehicle registration plates issued by authorities, this type of hand‑painted sign was used informally within the resistance movement, likely to identify vehicles, transport equipment, or internal units while avoiding traceability. The improvised materials, the rough utilitarian execution, and the bold red markings correspond closely with known resistance practices, where secrecy, speed, and internal communication were paramount.
This plate originates from a small, coherent group of objects associated with Holger Danske, including another plate with a different number, armbands, and related wartime material. Such provenance provides exceptional contextual strength and reinforces the authenticity of the piece.
